Get Involved!

Through its Volunteer and Student program, NURTUREart seeks bright, enthusiastic, responsible individuals and students with a commitment to supporting emerging art. Our Volunteer and Student Program encourages important skill development to people interested in working in the contemporary art world and is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in careers in contemporary art.

Volunteers will work directly with the gallery staff, learning about and assisting with all aspects of gallery operations, including: planning, installing, and promoting each exhibit and gallery event; grant writing and development; and maintaining our artist registry. Extensive training will be given to the right people.

Minimum commitment is one six-hour workday each week, plus occasional assistance for installations, opening receptions, and special projects and events. The gallery is open to the public Thursdays through Mondays, 12–6 PM. Minimum commitment of five months (or one semester). This is an unpaid opportunity, with students encouraged to explore possibilities for course credit arrangements at their university.

With a limited budget and small staff, NURTUREart depends heavily on its volunteers. If you have a professional skill you’d like to share on a project-by-project basis—anything from carpentry to art installation, writing, event planning or PR, design, video, photography, or IT—please contact us and we’ll get you involved.
Please note that although volunteers will not be financially compensated for their volunteer work, volunteers will be reimbursed for any expenses incurred on NURTUREart’s behalf.

Students applying for this program must be currently enrolled in and attending an institution of learning with courses leading to a degree, certificate or diploma; or be completing a residence requirement for a degree. Students must also provide NURTUREart with a statement from the student’s school attesting that she/he is a student (a) whose course of instruction leads to a degree, diploma or certificate, or (b) who is completing residence requirements for a degree.
Persons are also eligible for our program when school is not in session (e.g., during the summer) if they were students during the preceding semester, or have not yet graduated or completed the educational requirements of the program. Graduating students enrolled in an institution who plan to continue their education are considered students between terms, so long as no more than six months elapse between the end of one program and the start of the next. Students need not be art majors or students in art history or curatorial program studies. The minimum commitment is one semester. Please keep in mind that this is an unpaid internship opportunity. Unless otherwise regulated by the student’s school, we prefer a minimum commitment of six hours each week.
To apply, please email a resume and cover letter (attachment) stating your interest in NURTUREart and whether you would like to be considered as a volunteer or student, to with “Volunteer and Student Program” in the subject line.
