NURTUREart is pleased to introduce the inaugural Youth Advisory Board. The Youth Advisory Board is made up of previous participants of NURTUREart’s Education Program to sit under our Board of Trustees. The selected young people, ages 13–20, have opportunities to engage with our programming, gain access to our organization’s meetings, and influence our decision-making and policy.
Over the course of their annual commitment, the Youth Advisory Board holds quarterly meetings, attends events, interviews board members, and conducts independent research. Members provide input into our Education Program, while at the same time realizing a student-driven capstone project related to non-profits, leadership, and inclusion. They will have the opportunity to present their findings to our Board as well as through our public programs for wider audiences.
Founded in response to the Department of Cultural Affair’s diversity survey, the Youth Advisory Board offers a bridge for young program participants to advance their role at NURTUREart, as we seek for our organization’s leadership to better reflect our audience and community. In addition to creating a platform for youth’s voices, we are committed to a more fair distribution of opportunity and privilege among underserved students with limited resources.
