Karen Wilkin is a New York-based independent curator and critic specializing in 20th century modernism.  A native New Yorker, educated at Barnard College and Columbia University, she was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and a Fulbright Scholarship, to Rome.  She is the author of monographs on Stuart Davis, David Smith, Anthony Caro, Kenneth Noland, Helen Frankenthaler, Giorgio Morandi, and Hans Hofmann, and has organized and contributed to exhibitions of the work of these artists, among others, internationally.  These include Stuart Davis: American Painter at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Stuart Davis: a Retrospective at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation, Venice, and the Stedlijk, Amsterdam, and the touring exhibitions The Amazing Continuity:  The Drawings of Stuart Davis, David Smith: the Formative Years, David Smith: Two Into Three Dimensions, and Adolph Gottlieb: the Pictographs.  With William C. Agee, Ms. Wilkin is a contributing editor of the Stuart Davis Catalogue Raisonné, published by Yale University Press in 2007.  She is the Contributing Editor for Art for the Hudson Review and a regular contributor to The New Criterion and the Wall Street Journal.  Ms. Wilkin teaches in the MFA program of the New York Studio School.

Current projects include Revelation: the Major Paintings of Jules Olitski for the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Toledo Museum of Art, and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, (with E.A. Carmean Jr and Alison de Lima Greene), a touring exhibition, American Vanguards: Graham, Davis, Gorky, de Kooning and their Circle, 1927-1942 for the Addison Gallery of American Art, Philips Academy, Andover, MA, (with William C. Agee and Irving Sandler). A monograph, Anthony Caro:  Interior and Exterior, was published by Lund-Humphries, London, in 2010, part of a five volume series on Caro, which Ms. Wilkin edited.
